Bosklimaatfonds
The ‘Bosklimaatfonds’ is operational since 2001. The program is developed as a new incentive for private and public land/forest owners to plant new forest and to capture more carbon.
The Nationaal Groenfonds (the Dutch National Fund for Nature Development) finances projects for nature, forest and landscape development. Furthermore Nationaal Groenfonds gives financial advice on the development of nature projects. Nationaal Groenfonds helps the (local) governments as well as private landowners to finance nature projects. We combine different (public) funding money and tax facilities to optimize the available funds. In this way more nature is achieved with the same amount of money.
The ' Bosklimaatfonds' Program received financial support from the Dutch Ministries of IenM (Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment) and EL&I (The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Agriculture)
The forest owner receives EUR 4.000,- per ha. In the future, the purchase of the CO2 sequestration from new forestry projects will be financed from the sale of the already captured CO2 in the already contracted forestry projects.
There are some conditions that have to be met for projects under the ‘Bosklimaatfonds’ Program. The most important are:
- The forest has to be permanent (legally through the Forest Law, which forbids cutting of forest without replanting or regeneration).
- The forest has to be open to the public for recreation purposes.
- The forest management has to take into account ecological and landscape values.
- The project has to be larger than 5 hectares, (some exceptions are possible to this minimum area).
